If you are into bows and arrows at all then it’s safe to say that you already know what an archery backstop is.  The function it serves is to be a target in which to practice shooting arrows into.  They can be made of anything from cardboard boxes stuffed with a number of different materials to special made backstop netting.  This allows the arrow to be safely captured without penetrating the target and potentially injuring or killing anyone accidentally.

Having your own archery backstop in your back yard can be both fun and safe.  It allows you to practice your archery skills and also save you money due to flying arrows that land in places where they become irretrievable.  It also serves a safety barrier between you and the neighbors thinking someone is hunting them.

Archery Target Backstop Plans

Having the access to archery target backstop plans you can design and build your target backstop to you own specifications.  Not every backyard or facility where you practice is going to be the same size.  It’s possible that you may even practice in a wooded area.  That makes it more imperative that you have some archery target backstop plans.  You will need to survey your area and see exactly how high and wide the backstop netting needs to be.  This will determine the size of the archery backstop netting you will need to purchase.

Most archery target backstop plans are not difficult to follow.  You simply need to have a bit of knowledge on the type of bow you’re using and the distances they can travel.  In the video here you see the backstop plans in action.  Watching this should give you some insight on how to set up your system for maximum effect.

Archery Backstop Netting

Archery backstop netting can be purchased through various stores but I prefer to buy mine from trusted places like Ebay.  A good backstop netting will provide you with top quality features.  It should be able to stop not only wooden arrow but aluminum arrows and carbon arrows as well.  Being light weight should also be a feature greatly considered.  If you practice daily then you need a netting that can be easily taken down and put up without causing you much fatigue.

A good archery backstop netting will allow for easy removal of arrows that have been shot into it.  There’s nothing worse that trying to pry an arrow out of something that seems to refuse to let it go.  It should also be able to stand up to speeds of 300 fps to 400 fps.  No doubt you will be practicing on target shooting your arrows at it traveling at or near these speeds.  This backstop netting will work great as well as a backstop behind  your targets.  This gives you added use because it catches stray arrows and arrow that have a lesser impact should they penetrate all the way through your target.  As a result you maximize the life of the archery backstop netting.

DIY Archery Backstop

Nowadays everyone is into making their own diy archery backstop.  Which to me is a great idea.  Instead of buying a completed backstop you can simply by the materials that you need to complete your own and do it yourself.  The benefits of a homemade archery backstop is that you can tailor it custom made for your environment and to your specifications.  Who says one size fits all.

You may be in need of a small archery backstop and have no room for anything larger.  Take the time to analyze your archery needs and plan accordingly.  Your diy archery backstop need not look like everyone else.  You can make it diamond shaped or circle shaped instead of the usual rectangle or square shape you commonly see.  A lot of the archery backstop netting is black but you could buy other colors like green or red. It is totally up to you how your homemade archery backstop will turn out.  Check out this video of someone who made their own archery backstop.

And if you decided to buy a backstop “please” use on of the links on this page.  I get a commission each time someone uses my link.  It does not add anything to your purchase price and it helps to keep the site running.  Thanks.
